|
An volunteer, Hanna Blaney, did research on the life situation of Indian widows in 2012, and formed a new project of BIRDS. Here's her response:
My name is Hanna Blaney and I am recent college graduate from Portland, OR. I recently completed a research project on widows with the assistance of BIRDS. In my project, I visited rural villages and interviewed one-hundred-and-eleven widows ranging in age from nineteen to eighty-nine years old.
I became interested in women in India after taking a college course on South Asian Religions. From this course, I gained an academic view of the historical place of women in India as seen through literature. In my research, I gained a more realistic view of the lives of women (particularly widows, the most neglected group) in present day rural India. Read more....
